Rep. Eric Koch Running For State Senate

(BEDFORD) - District 65 State Representative Eric Koch (R-Bedford) announced he is seeking the State Senate Seat in District 44 which is currently held by Brent Steele, who is retiring at the end of his term in 2016.
Former Lt. Governor and State Senator Becky Skillman is serving as Honorary Chair of his campaign.
"It has been an honor to serve District 65 in the Indiana House of Representatives these past 14 years," said Rep. Koch. "Working together, we found solutions and moved Indiana from good to great. Still, work remains to be done and more challenges - known and unknown - lie ahead. I look forward to the opportunity to shape our future in the Indiana Senate."
Some of his legislative accomplishments include:
- In 2005 authored the Military Base Protection Act, which has been credited with helping save Crane from closure during the 2005 BRAC and testified before the BRAC Commission
- In 2008 authored the Indiana Arts and Cultural District certification program
- In 2010 authored legislation authorizing Problem Solving Courts
- In 2011 authored consumer protection and renewable energy legislation
- In 2014 authored personal privacy legislation, tax incentive review legislation, and legislation reforming Indiana's administrative law system
- In 2015 authored legislation to promote rural broadband and investment in broadband infrastructure, improve internal financial controls in state and local government, promote investment in water infrastructure and protect our water resources
His legislative work has been recognized by:
- The Indiana Chamber of Commerce for his work on water resource issues
- The Bloomington Area Chamber of Commerce for the Military Base Protection Act and his work to protect Crane from closure during the 2005 BRAC
- Pew Charitable Trust, which has cited his tax incentive review legislation as a national model
- Southern Indiana Drug Task Force for his legislative work in the fight against methamphetamine
In addition, Rep. Koch has received numerous awards from organizations including:
- Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association
- Indiana Rural Electric Cooperatives
- Indiana Rural Health Association
- Southern Indiana Center for Independent Living
- Indiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association
A graduate of Georgetown University and the Indiana University School of Law, Koch is an attorney in private practice and a small business owner. An eighth-generation Hoosier and raised on a farm, he and his wife Connie, a teacher at Shawswick Elementary, have three sons.
