(WASHINGTON) - State Street from North East 15th Street to North East 21st Street is closed in Washington until further notice after a sinkhole caused by a mine shaft opened just east of the intersection.
Washington Mayor Joe Wellman has announced the closure until crews can return to the site on Tuesday to assess the situation and the surrounding area.
Mayor Wellman says officials are not sure when the street will reopen to traffic.
Residents living in that area will be able to travel to and from their homes as well as patients visiting Cullen Medical.
Wellman asks that motorists and pedestrians avoid that area if at all possible.
