(BLOOMINGTON) - A set of Jeep keys left behind at the scene of a home invasion and armed robbery over the weekend helped solved the case for Bloomington Police.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the set of Jeep keys helped lead police to two male suspects, who took a taxi from a nearby gas station to a girlfriend's residence after the incident.
Bloomington police say a 17-year-old girl knocked on the door of an apartment in the 900 block of West Second Street early Saturday morning. The residents told police they knew the girl, but not the two armed men who forced their way inside and robbed them of electronics devices.
Police contacted the girl's parents who took her to the police station for questioning on Monday.
Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, says the teen was arrested on charges of robbery and burglary.
A set of car keys to a tan 2005 Jeep Cherokee were left behind after the robbery. Police found the Jeep parked near the apartment and tracked the vehicle's owner to a residence on Pecan Lane.
At that home police found the owner of the vehicle, 23-year-old Ronnie Burrus and 29-year-old Cordaro Murray.
The owner of the Jeep did not know the vehicle was used in the commission of a crime.
Police secured a search warrant for the home and Jeep. They found two semi-automatic handguns, a clear plastic bag containing a white powder and a digital scale in the home. In the Jeep, police found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and packets containing brown and white powders. Murray told police the powder was cocaine that he sells.
The probable cause affidavit states, Murray bought the guns off the street after someone he knows traded Xanax for them. Kellams says one of the guns had been reported stolen last year.
Burrus and Murray were both arrested Saturday on charges of charges of robbery, burglary and strangulation.
