(WASHINGTON) - Washington Mayor Joe Wellman announced that State Street is open again after a sinkhole was repaired.
The sinkhole appeared last week after the collapse of an old mine shaft near the edge of the street in a resident's yard. Department of Natural Resources officials say the hole was more than 20-feet deep and tunneled under much of the street.
City crews filled the mine shaft with 13 tons of flowable fill and 11 tons of rock paid or by DNR. They will monitor the mine shaft to make sure it does not cave in again.
