(DALE) - Officials have released the name of the man killed in a fire Saturday morning on the east side of Dale.
Spencer County Coroner Robert Fuller say 21-year-old Dylan Somers was a guest in the home and did not make it out of the burning home.
According to Carter Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dan Reinke, the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire at 25 South Sunset Drive.
The single-story brick home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene at 2:33 a.m. A neighbor reported the blaze.
Firefighters from Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department were called to assist in battling the blaze.
The house is owned by Diana Pope of Clarksville and was destroyed.
Andy Cantner, one of two males residing at the residence, had been smoking inside the home and had gone outside early this morning to tend to a bonfire, according to Reinke.
Reinke believes a discarded cigarette ignited a mattress on the living room floor.
According to Reinke, Canter went back inside to find the mattress on fire and dragged the mattress outside, but not before portions of that burning mattress ignited other areas of the home. Canter then returned to the home, but was unable to save Somers.
Canter suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Firefighters found Somer's body in a utility room off the living room.
The Spencer County Sheriff's Department and Spencer County Emergency Medical Services also assisted.
