(BEDFORD) - The North Lawrence school board on Thursday voted to set commencement at Bedford North Lawrence High School for May 27.
The board also voted to extend the school year through May 27 to allow students to make up a snow day used on February 15.
The Times-Mail reported high school students returning for the 2016-17 school year will each be issued a Chromebook. The use of computers will allow school officials to reduce the cost of book rental fees, blending the platform of textbooks with an electronic device.
Each family will be offered insurance on the device to cover the cost if the device is damaged.
Board members also approved alternative academic programs at the middle school level for students "hardest to serve."
The specifics of the alternative program will vary within Bedford, Oolitic and Shawswick middle schools, with Bedford and Oolitic introducing the concepts for seventh and eighth grades and Shawswick expanding it to include sixth grade as well.
