(HELTONVILLE) - Emergency crews were called to Bone Heads store in Heltonville Friday afternoon after a man stumbled into the store bleeding from his face.
Police and emergency crews were alerted to the incident at 2:14 p.m.
"The man was at his home airing a trailer tire up. It looks like the tire was over inflated and it blew up causing the injuries to his face." says Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults.
Earlier there was a lot of speculation that a shooting had occurred.
"It was NOT a shooting," Shoults wrote in an email. "Detectives are finishing up and a report should be available Monday morning and the sheriff should be able to release more information at that time."
An IU Health Hospital ambulance and Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department responded.
Police say 41-year-old David Jeff Blevens, of 10 Raintree Lane, was taken by ambulance to the Heltonville baseball field and then transferred to an AirEvac helicopter and flown to a Louisville Hospital for treatment.
