Man Arrested After Injuring Pregnant Woman

(AVOCA) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly injured a pregnant woman Sunday night.

Police arrested 36-year-old William Fred Harrison of Bedford on a charge of battery on a pregnant woman.

Police went to the home after a 911 call at 7:54 p.m. from a woman reporting she had been thrown to the floor and dragged by her hair.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, the woman told police she was gathering her things to leave when Harrison became angry.

"He threw her to the floor, dragged her by her hair, and attempted to throw her out of the house by dragging her by her leg," Branham says. "It was apparent to officers that the victim was pregnant, and she confirmed that she when asked by officers."

The victim complained of pain to her shoulder, elbow and scalp, but refused medical treatment.
