(DUBOIS) - A turkey barn near Dubois was engulfed in flames on Sunday.
Dubois and Haysville Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were called to DC Poultry, at 7739 N. 400 E., at about 4:14 p.m. after two neighbors reported the turkey barn was on fire.
When firefighters arrived they found a 40-by-500 foot building engulfed in flames.Firefighters were able to contain the fire to that barn. The building which was destroyed, did not have turkeys in it.
The farm consists of six building, three of the buildings next to the road were empty with the three remaining buildings full of turkeys. Firefighters say none of those birds were killed or injured.
According to firefighters, Evan Schnell, who operates the farm, had put a tractor with a shavings spreader attached and a skid loader in the barn around 1 p.m. Firefighters say the fire started in the area where the equipment was parked.
Firefighters were on scene for about two hours.
