(WASHINGTON) - Washington Police Chief Mike Healy is retiring.
He announced his retirement in an email to city employees and elected officials. His retirement is effective today.
Healy, who has served under two mayors, has spent almost 39 years on the police force.
Besides serving with the police department, Healy also worked for the Daviess County Community Corrections program and served as a county councilman.
Assistant Chief Todd Church will serve as acting chief until a new one is appointed. There has been no announcement on when the mayor and board of public works and safety will announce a permanent replacement.
