(BEDFORD) - A homeless woman was arrested after she was found passed out in her vehicle at Hardee’s early this morning.
Bedford Police were called to the restaurant at 4:31 a.m. after an employee reported that they attempted to wake a woman parked in a van in their parking lot.
"The employee reported they had banged on the vehicle door and window, but she would not budge," Chief Dennis Parsley said. "Officers arrived and finally got her awake."
When 20-year-old Megan Tipton stepped out of the van, police say she was unsteady on her feet.
"They called a K-9 unit to the scene and the dog alerted to possible drugs in the van," Parsley says. "Officers found a tin in the driver's side door that contained a green-leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana and a bag with a smoking device and other drug paraphernalia inside."
Tipton was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
