(BEDFORD) - A Monday afternoon fire destroyed a barn but the quick response of three volunteer fire departments allowed firefighters to save the contents.
Firefighters from Shawswick, Oolitic and Marion VFDs responded to the fire of the Jones residence on Hidden Acres Drive at 2:26 p.m.
"We were on station and were able to make it to the scene within minutes," says Shawswick VFD firefighters/EMT Austin Brown. "The barn was fully involved when we arrived. We hit it from the north and south sides but it collapsed in the middle."
The walls on the north side of the 100 foot-by-40-feet three-story barn collapsed.
"We were able to move the tin and save a brush hog and other equipment," Brown added. "However the tractor the owner was working on in the middle of the barn was destroyed. There was no livestock and no one was hurt while battling the blaze."
