(BEDFORD) - Firefighters with the Bedford Fire Department were called to a home at 1619 17th Street Monday to extinguish a fire that started in the attic area.
When firefighters arrived with three engines and the rescue unit at 2:30 p.m. there were flames coming from the front roof line and smoke was bellowing out of the attic area in the back of the home.
The home is owned by Sharon Stephens.
Firefighters say the residents had exited the home prior to firefighters arriving.
It took firefighters less than 10 minutes to contain the blaze.
The cause is under investigation.
The home did have damage to the attic area and there was water damage throughout the home.
Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
Firefighters returned to the home around 7:30 p.m. to make sure the fire had not rekindled.
Assisting at the scene were Bedford Police officers, an IU Health Hospital ambulance, Duke Energy and Vectren.
