(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested Friday after he allegedly stole eight guitars from his deceased friend’s home.
Police arrested 45-year-old Gabriel Rivera on charges of theft, dealing marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance and failing to report a dead body.
According to Bloomington Police Lt. Brad Seifers, Rivera's friend, 62-year-old Rickey Kinser, died of natural causes in his own home February 29. That same day, a neighbor told police that they saw Rivera at Kinser's house before the death was reported.
Rivera allegedly called the Monroe County Coroner's Office later that day to report the death, but not before police say he took 8 guitars - Fenders, Gibson and Taylor and a bass amplifier.
On March 4, Kinser's family called police to report several items were missing, including the guitars.
Police obtained a search warrant for Rivera's home on Corry Lane and found the missing guitars the amplifier and 10 live marijuana plants.
Rivera told police he took the items because Kinser told him before he died he wanted Rivera he wanted him to have them.
Rivera is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing Friday.
