(BEDFORD) - Justin Lemmons was named the Youth of the Year at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County Great Futures Campaign kick off Thursday night.
Melissa Lewis, a sophomore at Bedford North Lawrence High School, is president of Keystone Club. The Club is a character and citizenship program for youth ages 14-18. Lewis says leadership development and community service are two aspects of the club, and she says members want the club and Teen Center to serve as an outreach to youth.
John Lewis is the Americorp Staff Member. AmeriCorps is a civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors engaging adults in intensive community service work with the goal of "helping others and meeting critical needs in the community"
Great Futures Campaign raises funds for sustaining the wide variety of youth development programs offered by the club, creating a brighter future for the youth of Bedford.
During the open house, community members learned about the happenings and the behind-the-scenes action of the club, took tours of the facilities, heard speeches from the Youth of the Year, and finished the evening with a question and answer session.
