(MITCHELL) - Several people were questioned after a Mitchell man was stabbed during a dispute Wednesday afternoon during a dispute at a home in the 150 block of Dale Street.
According to Mitchell Police Chief Steve Blair, officers were alerted to the incident around 3:30 p.m. after a hysterical woman called 911 reported a stabbing at 150 Dale Street. A Seals ambulance and Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department rushed to the scene.
There they found 22-year-old Skyler Smith injured. Air Evac was requested, but due to weather conditions they were unable to fly. Smith was then taken by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment. Smith suffered a punctured lung and underwent surgery according to family members. He is recovering.
Chief Blair says officers were called to the home earlier but when they arrived there was no one at the residence.
"Then we received a call about the stabbing," Chief Blair added. "This case is still under investigation and we are in the process of getting a better understanding of what actually happened."
No suspect has been arrested but Chief Blair says they have spoke to several individuals in reference to the incident.
"Anyone with information who is willing to come forward is asked to contact our department or the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department," he added.
