(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell woman was arrested after she allegedly passed out in a tanning bed at Total Tan on M Street, Wednesday afternoon.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to the business just before 3 p.m. after an employee reported that a woman in one of the tanning beds was unresponsive.
They attempted to wake 27-year-old Kelsey Roberts but she would not respond.
"When officers arrived they were told by the employee that they believed Ms. Roberts was 'high' when she arrived," Parsley says. "The employee finally unlocked the tanning room door and was able to wake Ms. Roberts and got her dressed."
When she exited the room, Roberts was stumbling and falling down and could not comprehend officer's questions.
"She came with a child and another individual, but that person didn't have a valid driver's license," Parsley added. "Officers tried for 30 minutes to secure a ride for Ms. Roberts, but no one would come and get her."
Roberts was arrested on a charge of public intoxication on a controlled substance.
"That is when she became loud and began resisting officers while placing her in handcuffs," Parsley says. "She then began screaming at customers entering the establishment telling them if they entered they would be arrested."
While officers were placing Roberts in the police vehicle, she attempted to pull away and resist.
Roberts was then arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
