(UNDATED) - State officials are trying to find hundreds of Indiana residents or their heirs who are the rightful owners of unclaimed savings bonds worth more than $700,000.
The Indiana Attorney General's Unclaimed Property Division recently placed public notices in each of Indiana's major newspapers, listing 840 owners of nearly 1,800 U.S. Savings Bonds with a total matured value exceeding $722,000. Those decades old bonds have outdated names and addresses. Saving bonds were once used to save for the future or as gifts for children and grandchildren.
Attorney General Greg Zoeller urges all Hoosiers to review the list and pass it along to friends and relatives. He says, in many cases, the unclaimed bonds will have passed by inheritance to persons other than the original owner.
