(MITCHELL) - A Springville man was arrested Thursday on a warrant after he allegedly smacked a 3-year-old boy in the face.
According to probable cause affidavit, Mitchell police were called to Persimmon Park Apartments on February 23 about a domestic fight.
Police allowed 24-year-old Justin Parsley of Springville to leave the apartment.
The woman then wanted to file a battery report.
The woman and her 3-year-old son went to the police station and told officers that Parsley had hit the child in the face.
Police say the child did have scratches on his face and bright pink discoloration on the left side of his face, a scratch on top of his collarbone and neck area, redness on his right cheek and bruises on the left the side of his ear.
The woman told police that her son stayed overnight with Parsley, a male family member. She says she spoke with Parsley on the phone and heard him threaten to beat her son. Parsley later returned to the woman's home with the child, and the woman noticed marks on the child's face, in addition to a bloody nose. Parsley told the woman, and later police, the child fell down the stairs while trying to get a toy truck.
The woman told police she recorded parts of a conversation where Parsley admitted he smacked the child in the face.
The police also received a statement from a nurse at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital who said the child pointed to his face and said he had been hit.
Parsley was booked into the Lawrence County jail at 1:52 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for battery on a person less than 14 years old. He posted a $2,005 cash bond and was released Friday.
