(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County police believe a 18-year-old female might have suffered a seizure when she crashed her vehicle into a mailbox and then into the BNL Career Center on Friday afternoon.
According to a police report, Kimberly Wittmer was traveling east on BNL Drive through the parking lot of the high school when the 1004 Dodge Stratus she was driving struck a mailbox in front of the transportation office and then collided into the BNL Career Center and stopped near the building.
Police say Wittmer was disoriented and complained of head pain following the incident. Police say Wittmer has a history of seizures and believe she may of suffered one at the time of the crash.
Wittmer was wearing a seat belt and the airbags did deploy, preventing serious injuries.
Wittmer was taken by a Seals ambulance to IU Health Bedford Hospital for treatment.
The vehicle was heavily damaged and was towed from the scene by Stone City Towing. There was no estimate of damage to the Career Center listed on the accident report.
Assisting at the scene were Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department first responders.
