(UNDATED) - United States Marshals are warning Hoosiers of people posing as U.S. Marshals or Deputy U.S. Marshals.
These individuals are contacting members of the public and pretending to have a federal warrant for their arrest based on the victims either failing to appear for a federal grand jury, missing jury duty, or failing to respond to a subpoena or summons.
The caller says the arrest can be avoided if you pay a fine or fee.
The caller then instructs you to buy a prepaid money card from a local store and give the card number to them.
The U.S. Marshals Service does not take payments from people over the phone for fines or fees.
They warn you to not give personal financial information to unknown callers and recommends you report these crimes to the FBI or local police.
