(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Monday afternoon after causing a disturbance and refusing to cooperate with police.
Bedford police arrested 34-year-old Viking Wright, of 407 18th St., on charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest by fleeing and force.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley officers were called to 21st and N streets at 7:38 p.m. about a disturbance in the area. But when police arrived they couldn't find a problem.
As they were leaving the area they received a second call reporting a man was attempting to break into a home in the 2000 block of N Street.
"When officers arrived they could hear a commotion and the resident screaming at someone to get out," Chief Parsley says. "Police spotted a man matching an earlier description and he took off running when he noticed police."
Officers caught Wright in the backyard of a home in the 1400 block of 21st Street.
"He was ordered to get down and refused," Chief Parsley says. "He had to be forcibly taken to the ground where he continued to struggle with officers."
Officers were finally able to handcuff Wright who continued to be uncooperative.
"Then he refused to get off of the ground and walk to the police car," Chief Parsley added. "He had to be physically carried."
