(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation Officers are gearing up for the upcoming turkey hunting season.
The regular spring turkey season runs from April 27th to May 15th.
Every year, hunters take to southern Indiana's woods and fields with hopes of bagging a turkey. Thousands of acres of public hunting ground are available in the area, including, but not limited to, Harrison-Crawford State Forest, Jackson-Washington State Forest, and the Clark State Forest.
Indiana Conservation Officers want to encourage those hunters to keep the following safety tips in mind this year when pursuing their bird:
Indiana Conservation Officers also want to encourage hunters and non-hunters alike to report illegal turkey hunting activities by calling 1-800-TIP-IDNR, or Indiana Conservation Officers' 24-hour Central Dispatch at (812) 837-9536. A monetary reward is available for tips leading to the arrest of those involved in illegal hunting activities.
