(MORGANTOWN) - The Indiana Department of Transportation has closed the iron truss bridge just south of Morgantown on State Road 135 North indefinitely.
INDOT says a bridge inspector closed it due to stress damage. The inspector examining the bridge in preparation for a planned seven-day closure this summer decided to close it immediately..
On October 28, a truck struck the bridge and it was closed for a couple days.
No detour was marked by INDOT; however Brown County Highway Superintendent Mike Magner says highway crews are working to find detour signs and get them up.
Magner says that the Three Story Hill Road to Lick Creek Road is one alternate route. Spearsville Road, up toward Samaria on State Road 252, is another.
Detouring of the bridge is made more complicated because of a planned closure of State Road 45 at Lick Creek Road, which could happen as early as May 4.
Officials do plan to replace the bridge.
