(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was injured Sunday while he was holstering his pistol and it went off.
Lawrence County police were alerted to the injury at 5:23 p.m. Sunday after IU Health Hospital emergency room reporting treating a man with a gunshot wound.
According to Lawrence County Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults, 26-year-old Glenn Deckard was at his home in the 4000 block of Erie Church Road target practicing in the back yard.
"When he holstered his Ruger .40-caliber pistol, it fired striking the top of his right foot," Shoults wrote in an email. "The bullet traveled all the way through the foot.
Deckard told police he thought there was a firing malfunction because he had his trigger finger on the slide.
