(SHOALS) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an ATV accident that resulted in a father and daughter being flown to separate hospitals after they were ejected from their ATV when it flipped multiple times.
The driver, 45-year-old David Lents of Shoals, was flown to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville with internal injuries.
His daughter; Brittany Lents, also of Shoals; was flown to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. Brittany was wearing a helmet which is believed to have helped prevent head trauma and facial injuries. She only suffered minor injuries.
The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday on East River Road near Shoals. Police say the ATV left the roadway and then reentered the roadway causing the driver to lose control of the ATV.
Police say excessive speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.
Responding agencies included the Martin County Sheriff's Department, Loogootee Fire Department, Shoals Fire Department, Martin County EMS, Air Evac, St. Mary's Life Flight and Indiana Conservation Officers.
