(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Community Band will present its first concert of the season Monday at 7 p.m. at the Otis Park Bandshell.
The show is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and refreshments.
Music for the program will include Indiana songs, songwriters and singers, including "On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away," which is the Indiana state song, "Indiana, Way Back Home Again," a John Mellencamp medley, Michael Jackson medley, John Williams music from "Star Wars" and Indiana Jones, "A Fifth of Beethoven," arranged by Roger Gales, as well as three university school songs and an armed forces salute.
The Bedford Community Band is a volunteer music group, comprised of adult instrument players from the community and also student musicians. The band is directed by Gales, associate director of bands and music department chairman at Bedford North Lawrence High School.
The band presents three concerts every summer. The second concert will be July 4 at Harp Commons in downtown Bedford. The third concert will be at the Otis Park Bandshell on August 7.
Those who play an instrument and would like to join the band for future concerts can come to the next practice June 7, from 7-9 p.m., in the BNL band room.
