(BEDFORD) - Dan Kirk, plan director for the city of Bedford, says the Milwaukee depot will be moved on Wednesday, rain or shine.
The public can watch the proceedings.
"We will have officers in the area," Kirk added. "Residents can park on the side streets and walk down to the location, we just ask that they stay a safe distance away."
The depot project is part of the city of Bedford's Stellar Communities grant. The limestone building, which opened in 1900, is 130 feet long and weighs 350 tons. A Wolfe employee will direct the moving using a wireless, radio remote control system.
Crews will move the depot to the edge of the street on Tuesday in preparation of the move on Wednesday.
It will take a couple of days to move the depot to a lot at 14th and J streets that is about 1,200 feet south of its current site.
On Wednesday, J street will be closed to traffic. Homes and businesses may be affected by temporary power outages during the move. The road will be completely closed on 10th Street and will remain close for a couple of days.
Kirk says it will take a couple of days to move the depot. On the third day they will place it on its foundation at the new location. Once the depot is placed on its new foundation, Tri-County Builders will resume work on the interior. The project will be completed by November.
