(CLAY CO. KY.) - The victim in an early Saturday morning shooting in Clay County, Kentucky has died, according to the Fayette County coroner.
LEX18 News out of Lexington reports 35-year-old Alisha Tye of Salem, IN died at UK Medical Center Sunday morning. She was three months pregnant.
Police arrested 52-year-old boyfriend Sam Cornett, also a Washington County, IN native.
Neighbors on Skull Branch Road say it was around midnight when they heard the shooting. Seconds later, they saw Cornett walking away with his 2-year-old daughter.
A neighbor told police that he went inside the home to find Tye bleeding from a gunshot wound to her head.
The homeowner Amanda Ross told police that Cornett is her nephew, and they were trying to protect his girlfriend who was hiding from him.
The family told police that Cornett kicked in the door and pointed a gun at each of them. He then found Tye with their daughter hiding in a back bedroom.
He fired the gun numerous times while Tye held her daughter. He then allegedly shot Tye in the head.
The investigation, led by Detective Willie Cowan, is ongoing.
