(BLOOMINGTON) - A young bobcat was released Saturday in the forest near Lake Monroe by WildCare Inc. after she recovered from surgery to repair her pelvis.
The kitten was hit by a car in Bloomington just before Thanksgiving.
University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine surgeons, led by faculty member Dr. Tisha Harper, successfully stabilized the bobcat's pelvis during a 3-hour surgery. They donated the cost of her surgery and post-op care.
She required months of physical therapy and care before she was ready for release.
Wildlife Inc. treats an average of 2,000 patients a year, from eagles to bobcats, and everything in between.
