(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he was acting strangely in the parking lot of the JayC Plus grocery store parking lot Sunday morning.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley an officer was patrolling in the store parking lot when they were flagged down by a customer reported a man was staggering in the lot and acting strange.
Officers approached 32-year-old Jason Phillips.
"Mr. Phillips was acting confused and when asked questions, his answers didn't make any sense," Parsley says. "He was acting strange and kept placing his hand into his pocket."
When asked what the man had in his pocket he pulled out a package of cigarettes.
When the officer took the cigarettes to look inside the package, Phillips grabbed the officer's arm and twisted it behind the officer's back in an attempt to retrieve the cigarette package.
The officer broke away and placed Phillips in handcuffs. The officer was not hurt in the incident.
Inside the cigarette package was meth.
Phillips was arrested on charges of possession of meth, public intoxication and battery of a police officer.
