(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Playwrights Project presents the 36th Annual Arts Fair on the Square Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Arts Fair on the Square takes place on the grounds of the downtown square surrounding the Monroe County Courthouse and is free to attend.
The event showcases the work of 110 artists, supports local organizations through community booths, and features a wide variety of entertainment from local performance groups. There will also be not one, but two art centers with ongoing and drop-in art activities throughout the day for the artist in everyone.
Art Center North features Cookies and Canvas mini painting workshops with a professional artist, gourmet cookie-themed popsicles from Rasta Pops (the cookies to go with the canvas), Ivy Tech and the BPP Youth Education's free Creature Clips art activity, and face painting. Art Center South features Lotus Education & Arts Foundation's One Million Stars to End Violence activity and Ivy Tech and the BPP Youth Education's free A Rockin' Good Time art activity.
In addition to many opportunities to see and engage in art, we also feature entertainment throughout the day from local performance groups.
Start the day off right with an amazing event kick off concert with the Bloomington Community Band at 10 a.m. Then check out some truly unique and wonderful art around the square or an art activity at one of our two art centers.
Be sure to stick around for other performers: the Windfall Dancers, Jordan River Crossing barbershop quartet, and Dark Side Tribal Belly Dancers.
After you've had your fill of music and dance, continue enjoying all of the truly incredible art including ceramics, wood, jewelry, sculpture, metal, drawing, painting, photography, glass, and more.
The mission of Arts Fair on the Square is to showcase fine art and craft of the highest quality, connect artists with the art-buying community, and promote commitment to the arts through a variety of interactive arts experiences.
