(OOLITIC) - Indiana Department of Conservation divers recovered the body of 36-year-old Lloyd Wilson from Salt Creek, south of Oolitic this morning.
An autopsy is being conducted at this time to determine a cause of death.
Lawrence County police are assisting with the investigation.
Lawrence County police received a call of a person struggling in the water of Salt Creek behind a residence located near the 1100 block of Lafayette Avenue in Oolitic just after 10 a.m. The caller reported hearing a splash and someone yelling 'Help he can't swim.'
A resident at that home tried to go out to the creek to rescue the man, but wasn't able to reach him.
Conservation officers recovered Wilson's body 10:58 a.m. in approximately 4 feet of water.
Officer Jet Quillen, DNR Law Enforcement, says officers are investigating the reasoning for the victim to be in the water at this location and what events could have caused him to go under the surface of the water.
Lawrence County police, Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital ambulance, Coroner Rob Herr, conservation officers and Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the recovery.
