(DAVIESS CO.) - The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department reports remains that were found back in 2015 have been positively identified as a missing person from 1981. They are now investigating this case as a homicide.
Human remains found in a drainage culvert in Odon on April 7, 2015 have been identified as those of Ira Freeman Kemp.
Police say his death is being investigated as a homicide.
"35 years have gone by, but we're going to work it just the same as if it happened yesterday or last week," says
Daviess County Sheriff's Detective Kevin Eaton. "If anyone knows something they need to speak up. Someone knows or saw something."
Kemp was reported missing on or about January 25, 1981. His remains were found by two young men playing in the drainage culvert off of Grove Street. A gun was found alongside the remains.
The Freeman's remains were identified through DNA testing by the University of Northern Texas.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon.
"I think the family now has some peace now that he has been found," says Detective Eaton.
