(HELTONVILLE) - A fire at a home on Allen Street in Heltonville was extinguished quickly thanks to the quick action of volunteer firefighters.
Firefighters from Pleasant Run and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments were called to the home across the street from the Heltonville grocery store at 1:13 p.m. Tuesday after a report by a passerby who discovered smoke coming from the home.
According to Shawswick VFD firefighters Austin Brown who was one of the first to arrive, a neighbor was on the scene armed with a garden hose attempting to put out the blaze.
"There was smoke showing," Brown added. "We dropped a line and attacked the kitchen area. We had the fire out in less than 10 minutes."

No one was home at the house owned by Robert Byers.
"There was smoke and heat damage throughout the home," Brown says.
Firefighters were on the scene until just before 3 p.m..
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene was a Seals ambulance crew, Jackson County REMC and TOPES, who provided a cool place for firefighters to rest and cold drinks.
