(BEDFORD) - Saturday at Murray Forest Park is the place to be for fun outdoors if you are a kid, or have kids in the Bedford area.
There will be 28 activities including archery, horseback riding, gun and boat safety, mountain biking, snakes, a free lunch, and much more.
"A wide variety of partners have joined forces to make this a very fun day for kids to experience outdoor fun," said Teena Ligman, coordinator for the event.
The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
"We have some new activities this year that I think kids will enjoy," said Ligman. "They can build a birdhouse, ride a mountain bike through a short obstacle course, learn about camping in an RV, plant a seed in a bag, and play a game about the Leave No Trace ethic." Kids can also learn about dog training and retrieving, ride horses and ponies, play hopscotch and hula hoops, and play games on bee pollination."
Children can learn to shoot a bow and a BB gun; play old fashion pioneer games, and learn new games to play outdoors. There will also be a nature detective game and a bounce house to play in, as well as a photo station to dress up.
The first 350 children will receive a backpack and there are prizes for children who complete the stations. All children should be accompanied by an adult and children should wear shoes for some of the activities (not flip flops or sandals). Please leave your dogs at home for the safety of others and so as not to distract the dogs which are working at the event.
Come enjoy a fun summer day and "Get Outdoors" at Murray Forest Park, just off SR 58 behind Stalker School in Bedford. For more information call the Hoosier National Forest office at (812) 275-5987.
