(FAIRFAX) - Summer is always a busy time at Lake Monroe. But beginning Friday, it’ll be bowhunters - not boaters - in the Fairfax State Recreation Area.
Monroe Lake is hosting the second leg of the International Bowhunting Organization's (IBO) National Championship Triple Crown tournament on June 10 to 12 at Fairfax State Recreation Area.
The Triple Crown of Bowhunting consists of three tournaments hosted in separate states. National championships are awarded for various age, gender and equipment classes. Around 1,200 bowhunters are expected to participate at Fairfax SRA.
Participants will shoot at 3D targets in woods and fields in ways that simulate hunting.
Some areas of Fairfax SRA will be closed temporarily to the public. The hiking trails and the area to the north of the entrance road will be closed from June 8 to 12.
The Fourwinds Resort and Marina, boat ramp and swimming beach will remain open for all visitors throughout the tournament.
The tournament vendor area will be in the beach parking lot and is open to the public.
Local vendors interested in participating should contact Corey Rieman at (812) 837-9546.
The admission fee for Fairfax SRA is $7 per in-state vehicle and $9 per out-of-state vehicle.
Fairfax State Recreation Area on Monroe Lake (stateparks.IN.gov/2954.htm) is at 9801 S. Fairfax Road, Bloomington.
