(BEDFORD) - A section of Plaza Drive will close Monday, June 13, weather permitting, to begin construction that will eventually link Plaza Drive South with State Road 37.
Bedford Plan Director Dan Kirk says the work will be done in phases. Some work will be done after 6 p.m. to minimize the the disruption to businesses. Signs will be in place to direct motorists to alternate routes.
Motorist will now access The Pines and Cambridge Square apartments, SAIC and Tri-Star Engineering from the south on 23rd Street.
The first phase of the project will close Plaza Drive from 16th Street to near the Lowe's entrance/exit. The intersection of 16th and Plaza Drive will not close. But motorists will not be able to turn onto Plaza Drive to access the entrance to McDonald's or Lowe's. Motorist will have to enter those businesses from 16th Street.
Once Phase 1 is complete that section will open and work will begin on Phase 2.
Phase 2 will close Plaza Drive from Lowe's to just north of Hoosier Hills Credit Union.
Phase 3 will close Plaza Drive from the credit union to where the extension of Plaza Drive begins.
Crews will install water lines and storm sewers and should take about nine weeks to complete. Following that, sidewalks will be added and the street will be widened.
