(MITCHELL) - Three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash at Ind. 37 and Main Street in Mitchell Sunday night.
Lawrence County Police and emergency crews responded to the intersection just after 9 p.m.
According to police, 76-year-old Raymond Osborn of Paoli was turning southwest from Ind. 37 south onto Main Street and had the flashing yellow arrow to yield to traffic. At the same time 81-year-old Cecil Melton of Mitchell was northbound and had the green light and struck Osborn's 2008 Chevrolet Uplander.
Police say 20-year-old Devin Nicholson of Oolitic was stopped in his 2008 Pontiac in traffic on Main Street and was struck by Melton's 1996 Ford F-150. Melton's vehicle then caught on fire.
Nicholson's vehicle then struck a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 16-year-old male from Mitchell.
Raymond Osborn complained of body pain and was taken by ambulance to IU Health Hospital. His passenger, 73-year-old Jane Osborn, suffered internal injuries and was taken by helicopter to Methodist Hospital.
Cecil Melton was taken by ambulance to IU Health Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Methodist Hospital after suffering a possible spinal injury.
Both Nicholson and Williams were treated at the scene but refused to seek medical attention.
Assisting at the scene was Mitchell Police, Seals and IU Health Hospital ambulances, Mitchell and Marion Volunteer Fire Departments and Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.
