(WASHINGTON) - Washington Community Schools will be dismissing students one hour earlier on Wednesdays.
The early dismissal is designed to provide teachers with time to work on training.
School Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach told the Washington Times Herald the early releases have been invaluable to implementing change and professional development throughout the district.
Washington schools did a number of early release Wednesdays last year and the results were positive enough to continue the practice.
Over the past several years, changes on the state level in curriculum and testing have often left schools and teachers scrambling to keep up. Washington officials say the Wednesday afternoon training sessions provide an opportunity to catch up and consider new ways of teaching.
School officials say they will not have early dismissals on those Wednesdays where the start of school is delayed by weather.
