(BLOOMINGTON) - A 2-year-old was found wandering near the Golden Living Center on Bloomington’s south side Monday morning after escaping from a nearby apartment where he lived.
Police were called to the nursing home on East Burks Drive at 10:51 a.m. after a small child was found outside alone.
The Department of Child Services was notified, and an employee recognized the child, who lived in the 3100 block of South Walnut Street Pike.
Bloomington Police Department Lt. Brad Seifers says the child's father contacted police about 40 minutes after he was located.
The father told police he had checked on the child before taking a shower and that the apartment door was locked, but the toddler had moved a table away from the door, unlocked it and left on his own.
Seifers says the child was returned to his home, and no charges were filed.
