(BEDFORD) - Unpaid overdue utility bills totaling more than $30,000 were written off by the city of Bedford as uncollectable at a meeting of the Board of Works this week.
Director of Utilities Misty Adams says after six years, unpaid bills are considered uncollectable. The bills, most of them from 2004-2010, have already gone through a collections agency.
Most of the bills went unpaid either because of a death or the person cannot be located.
The amount totaled $30,416, of which $20,452 were water bills. Trash and sewer fees make up the remaining bad debt.
