(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham told the commissioners inmate numbers have been high the last few weeks.
On Tuesday there were 155 inmates in the jail, of those 37 were females, 8 were Level 6 felony convictions and 1 was a Department of Corrections hold.
"This time of the year is our peak time," Sheriff Branham says. "Last week we had 160 inmates...we can house 168."
In other business:
Work continues with Spillman Technologies, Inc. who is installing the Sheriff's Department with a new integrated computer aided dispatch system (CAD) software. The program is needed if the state demands the county have a central dispatch center.

Sheriff Branham will meet Thursday with DLZ engineers who will make repairs on the ramps at the county jail. At a previous meeting Sheriff Branham estimated the cost at approximately $160,000 to repair both ramps and make them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes asked the commissioners to declare repairs for Bridge 113 on Springville Judah Road an emergency so the county will not have to follow standard bidding procedures on the project.
The bridge, over Spring Creek, was closed after an accident knocked out the pier and a cross member beam out from under the bridge and loosened another pier.
Bridge inspectors say the bridge will need to be replaced. Holmes hopes to straighten the bridge and expand it from 35 to 39 feet.
Attorney David Smith is negotiating with the driver's insurance company to see if they will pay for all or some of the cost to replace the bridge.
Crews will resume paving county roads on August 5.
Crews are cutting brush, patching roads and chip and sealing roads in District 2.

Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer says the Lawrence County 4-H Fair and the ABATE Boogie were successful.
She also requested the commissioners vote to allow horse and buggy warning signs be placed on some county roads where the Amish population is growing. Two area signs will be placed are on Bartlettsville and Motocross roads.
