(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly punched and choked a woman.
Lawrence County police arrested 57-year-old Charles Bridges Jr. on charges of domestic battery and strangulation.
According to a Lawrence County Superior Court I probable cause affidavit, officers were called to the intersection of Meridian Road and East Grissom Avenue where a woman told them that Bridges had injured her Saturday during a domestic fight at Bridges' home in the 1500 block of Rabbitsville Road.
The woman told police Bridges was being "hateful", so she locked herself in a bathroom, She claims Bridges kicked open the door and started choking her and she couldn't breathe. He also placed his knee on her chest causing a bruise.
Bridges let her go and went to sleep on the couch.
The next day, the woman attempted to leave the home and Bridges allegedly grabbed her hair and pulled her back into the house.
He then got on top of her and choked her again and punched her in the face.
The woman was able to scratch Bridges and flee the home.
Police say the woman suffered bruises to her chest and eye and a swollen lip.
Bridges was booked into the Lawrence County jail at 3:38 p.m. Sunday. He posted a $755 bond and was released Monday.
