(MITCHELL) - The Mitchell City Council voted to pass an ordinance creating the Mitchell Parks and Recreation Board.
The board, which will be comprised of four members, will be appointed by the mayor based on their interest and knowledge of parks and recreation. According to the ordinance, one member will serve for one year, one for two years, one for three years, and another for four years. As a term expires, each new appointment will be made for four-year terms.
Both a president and vice president will be elected at the board's first meeting.
According to the ordinance, the board is empowered to "perform all acts necessary to acquire and develop sites and facilities to conduct programs generally understood to be park and recreation functions." The board will prepare and submit an annual budget and will oversee the operation and maintenance of the city parks.
