(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Fair Board, in conjunction with Hoosier Hills Credit Union, is presenting two popular bands — Backwoods Bluegrass and Blue Mafia — Saturday in the Expo Hall of the Lawrence County Fairgrounds as a kick-off to the 2016 Lawrence County Fair.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Students younger than 13 are admitted for $5.
The money will be used to make improvements to facilities at the fairgrounds.
Blue Mafia, the headliner, features local fiddle player Kent Todd. Todd's sister-in-law Dara Wray plays mandolin and her husband Tony picks the guitar. Michael Gregory thumps the bass while Calib Smith strums the banjo.
Blue Mafia, assembled in 2011, has made a name for itself in the bluegrass genre, twice winning third-place honors in national competitions in Nashville. Associated with Pinecastle Recording Artists, Blue Mafia is a professional touring band.
Backwoods Bluegrass, the first band to take the stage, features Rusty Collier, Joe East, Austin Harper, Sarah McCullough, and Aaron Tackett. Collier plays bass, East strums, Harper picks the mandolin, McCullough plays banjo and Tackett sings harmony. The band plays both gospel and traditional bluegrass.
Both barbecue and hamburgers will be for sale.
