Bedford Man Arrested After Fleeing From Police On Motorcycle

(UNDATED) - A Bedford man was arrested Sunday night after he refused to stop for a Lawrence County Police officer attempting to stop him for an equipment violation.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham around 9:28 p.m. on off-duty officer in a marked patrol car observed a motorcycle traveling westbound on State Road 58 and then turn around and go back east on State Road 58 when he noticed the approaching police car.

"The officer noticed that the motorcycle did not have a working taillight and attempted a traffic stop," Sheriff Branham says. "The rider initially refused to stop and the officer pursued the driver for approximately 8 minutes across multiple county roads."

The pursuit continued through Springville into Red Hill Addition, south west on Rueter Lane, where the driver threw away a beer can on South Peters Lane. The pursuit continued pass Maul Ridge Road, then south passing Fayetteville School, pass the intersection at Fayetteville Coxton Road where the driver failed to stop at the intersection.

The pursuit ended with the driver finally stopped at the Old Union Church cemetery.

Police arrested 28-year-old Mark Caraway of Bedford on charges of resisting law enforcement and being a habitual traffic violator. He was also cited for numerous traffic violations.
