(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington is hosting the Amateur Softball Association Girls’ Class A 18-Under Fast Pitch National Championships this week.
Bloomington's Parks and Recreation Department and Visit Bloomington will host the tournament, which continues through Sunday at Twin Lakes Sports Park, Winslow Sports Complex and Lower Cascades Park ballfields.
The tournament will draw 80 teams representing 21 different states, including six teams from four Indiana communities -- Plainfield, Jasper, Greenwood and Indianapolis.
Visit Bloomington officials say more than 1,200 softball players and 4,000 spectators will visit the area.
Officials expects the tournament to have an overall economic impact of $1.5 million to $2 million in the city and the county.
Daily admission to games at Twin Lakes Sports Park and Winslow Sports Complex is $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 17 years and younger. There is no gate fee to watch pool play games at the Lower Cascades ballfields. Tournament passes for admission to all the tournament games are $30 for adults and $15 for youth ages 17 and younger.
