(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington police are investigating two separate armed robberies that happened on Friday.
The first happened at 5:28 p.m. at the Dollar General store located on West Third Street.
According to police a white male approached the store clerk requesting help to find a cell phone card to purchase. Theman then lifted his shirt to show the clerk a black handgun and demanded money.
The clerk complied and the male suspect, who was wearing a white shirt, tan shorts and a black hat with blue lettering on it, took the money and left the store. Witnesses say the man left in a tan or gold Ford.
The second robbery was reported at 11:50 p.m. Friday at the Big Red Liquors store, formerly Karton King, on Walnut Street Pike.
A store clerk told police two black males entered the store, one wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and the other a gray hooded sweatshirt with dark pants. Both had masks over their faces. Both males had guns.
The clerk told police the male in the gray hooded sweatshirt jumped the counter and demanded cash from the register before taking the employee to the safe.
The employee gave the man the money out of the register but couldn't get the money from the safe because they didn't have the combination to the lock.
While this was happening the second man was canvassing the store, found another employee and demanded that they open the safe.
The second employee complied, and the men grabbed cash from the safe and fled.
Anyone with information about the Dollar General store robbery is asked to contact Detective JR Holmes at (812) 349-3325. Anyone with information about the robbery at the Big Red Liquors store should contact Detective Jake Hunter at (812) 349-3374.
