(BEDFORD) - Gene McCracken was honored Friday night with the Bedford Chamber’s 2016 Community Service Award.
Shance Sizemore, chief executive officer of the Bedford Chamber and Lawrence County Economic Growth Council, described McCracken's many accomplishments during the chamber's 100th Annual Chamber Dinner saying McCracken worked diligently for Lawrence County in his various roles over the years.
McCracken, who has served on the Lawrence County Council for 8 years, retired after 33 and a half years of teaching at Mitchell High School. He served eight years on the school board. He also served 10 years as executive director of the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council. He serves as the executive director of Stone Gate Arts & Educator Center and running for commissioner.
The Beautification award was given to Eyeconic Eyecare owned by Dr. Nathan McClain and his wife Brittany.
The business moved to its new home at 3343 Michael Ave. The building was the former Fit for Life gym and received a complete renovation before the business opened to the public.
